How MooPoot Addresses the contest criteria:

 

Relation to Environment:

-Ozone Layer: cannot be regenerated.

 

Chosen Theme: Big and Small

-Cows grow bigger/smaller.

-Buildings grow bigger/smaller.

 

Underlying Environmental Issues reflected by chosen theme and game design:

-Ozone Problem: growing bigger cannot be solved => difficulty only increases, doesn’t decrease.

-No winning condition: reflects Ozone Layer: cannot be regenerated.

·        Game Objective

The objective of the game is to conserve the Ozone Layer for as long as possible. This is done by collecting Methane from the Cows before they fart.

There is no winning condition. We will all die when the Ozone eventually depletes completely.

 

Scoring:

-A player gets points every time they deposit Methane into the Generator.

-In addition, the amount of points is multiplied by the number of buildings already powered by the Methane.

-Players accumulate a high score by continuously depositing Methane into the Generator after collecting it from the cows.

·        Game World

-The game world consists of a field of cows in the foreground and a city in the background.

-The top of the game world is a visual representation of the Ozone Layer.

-There is also a Generator, to deposit the Methane, in the right side of the foreground.

·        Controls

Mouse:

The Farmer will be controlled only with the mouse.

 

-Clicking the mouse button will activate the jetpack and lift the Farmer off the ground. The lift needs to be constantly maintained if not the Farmer will return to the ground.

-The location of the mouse cursor will determine the direction the Farmer will go.

<SPACE> Key:

 

-Holding down the <SPACE> button when the Farmer is in position behind the cow will cause the Farmer to suck Methane from the Cow.

-Holding down the <SPACE> button when the Farmer is in position near the Generator will cause the Farmer to deposit Methane into the Generator.

·        Game Elements

The Ozone Layer:

-Cow fart contains Methane which destroys part of the Ozone Layer.

-The Ozone Layer cannot be regenerated.

-The game ends when the Ozone Layer is completely destroyed.

 

The Farmer:

-Players control a Farmer, who is supposed to suck the Methane from the cows to prevent the cow’s fart from destroying the Ozone Layer.

-The Farmer then deposits Methane in the Generator, which powers the city. 

 

Methane:

-Players control a Farmer, who is supposed to suck the Methane from the cows to prevent the cow’s fart from destroying the Ozone Layer.

-Once Methane is collected by the Farmer, it can be deposited into the Generator, which will in turn power the city and make it grow bigger.

-Players get points when the Farmer deposits the Methane into the Generator.

 

The Cows:

-Cow fart contains Methane which harms the Ozone Layer.

-The fatter the cow, the more Methane it contains and the higher it will float.

-When a Cow reaches the ozone, it will fart and destroy a part of the Ozone Layer. The cow then disappears but another will spawn to replace it.

-The difficulty level of the game increases as more Cows spawn when players get better at managing the Methane levels.  

 

The City:

-Depositing Methane into the Generator powers the city. More buildings will appear as the city grows bigger, the amount of bonus score multipliers increases.

E.g. If the player deposits Methane when there are 5 buildings in the city, they get the score of depositing Methanex5.

-Over time, if the generator does not receive enough Methane, the City will not have enough power to sustain itself; buildings will disappear as the city grows smaller. Players will lose the bonus multiplier.

·        If We Had More Time…(other than 24 hours)

 

We would explore some other possibilities…although we may or may not implement them.

-Add function to explode cow but at the expense of losing all your multipliers. (meant to allow players to catch up if there are many cows near the ozone.)

-Do the Ozone Ray particle effects (done during Contrast but removed due to game lag.)

-Jetpack needs refueling, with either Methane or Cow shit.

-good thing about cowshit = won’t confuse players which to collect for which purpose.

-good thing about methane = players have to experience tradeoff between depositing methane (for points) or collecting more (especially if there is a cow near the ozone)

 

Increasing Level of Difficulty:

-Different coloured cows.

-More cows = move at different speeds, different rate of collecting methane.

-sheep

-zombie cows

-more buildings = faster the rate of losing buildings (losing multiplier)
