I woke up in Jeff's bed.

It was too bright for it to be early morning. The thing about recovering is that it's faster if I just eat and sleep more. But frankly, it makes me fat. The eating more I could control but the sleeping didn't hurt so I didn't mind much. It was my three month long term break anyway. I can be a vampire for all I care. To be honest, I've been sleeping at around dawn lately anyway. Most of the time playing online games. Yup, my life sure was exciting.

    "Hey."

I turned around. Jeff was at the computer beside the bed. He was definitely a morning person.

"It's two in the afternoon." Okay, an afternoon person too.

I ignored him and covered my head with a pillow. Then took it off and looked at him. He had his glasses on. He didn't have them on unless he was using the computer. He also shaved and looked so much more...fresh. He smiled and walked over, putting his glasses on the nightstand as he got into bed. I love it when he smiles. Some people usually grin for special occasions and smile for normal ones. He was the opposite. It made me feel special, all warm and fuzzy inside.

    "Hmmm..." Cuddly.

"I took the day off," he whispered into my ear, "We have the whole day. The rookie can wait until night."

    "Really?"

"Absolutely." He kissed the nape of my neck.

    "Hmmmm..."

I only got out of bed an hour later. I washed up in his bathroom while he went to buy lunch. My toothbrush was still in his bathroom. That was a good sign right? I even took a bath. My apartment didn't have a bathtub. I've been bath-deprived for a couple of months now. By the time lunch arrived, it was late enough to be early dinner. Very early dinner. Oh well.

After eating, I called Zach to ask him what he found out. Okay, so I also needed to hear a familiar voice.

    "Babe."

    "How's the case?"

"The girl didn't know him, neither did the boyfriend. We couldn't get any answers from the cops." Not good.

    "And the other leads?"

"Been going through them with Paddy since morning."

    "Oh."

    "Babe?"

    "Yeah?"

"Stop calling me and pay attention to Jeff." Dammit. I hate it when he does that. Zach was honest to shit with me when it matters. I guess that's what best friends do.

    "I hate you."

"I love you too." I heard him laugh then there was a 'click.'

Stupid Zach. Emotional support my ass. I sighed and Jeff laughed. I raised an eyebrow at him, "You heard that?"

He grinned and tweaked my nose, "No, but the look on your face is enough."

I was just entertaining the hell out of everyone.

Star Wars was showing on the television and we semi-watched it while making-out. Well, except for the ewoks part. I always pay full attention to that part. I love ewoks. When the movie was over, I called Barry and let him know we were coming as we got dressed. I wore my jeans and borrowed one of Jeff's shirts, because somewhere between last night and tonight my shirt went missing.

We got into Jeff's blue Mini Cooper and headed back to my home. Neither of us said anything during the drive. It was nice to just enjoy each other's company. Besides, we both weren't the chatty types. That's one of the things I loved about him. If I wanted a chatty guy beside me, I would just hang out with Zach.

Samuel "Sammy" Lee was on security tonight. His abilities were like mine, except that he's a guy so he usually uses weapons whereas I mostly fight unarmed. Our security station is on the side of the building, not near the main gate. But we have cameras all along the road leading to our building, that's how Sammy recognized Jeff's Cooper and why the large iron gate swung open even before we reached it.

So how did I know it was Sammy? Because he had a wicked sense of humor. Once Jeff parked his Cooper into a lot reserved for visitors, the lamppost behind our car flickered on and off three times the moment Jeff turned off the engine. It was a reminder of the first time Jeff came to our headquarters. Sammy and I had been the security detail that day and was supposed to escort him to the building. That was when Jeff and I were still in that limbo stage and couldn't keep our eyes off each other. Sammy found it amusing to keep reminding me of that day.

We waited in the car for Sammy to come get us. It was sort of a rule that visitors had to have at least two escorts. By visitors we mean people like us, not the regular customers.

I turned to see Jeff's profile. He had his hair slicked back tonight and it revealed his chiseled jawline. Unlike me, the guy wasn't remotely chubby. I saw a small smile form as he saw the lamppost. Yup, he got the hint too.

"So, what's the plan? You gonna just go in and take him back straight away?"

He unbuckled his seat belt and turned to me, putting one arm around my shoulder and the other resting on the steering wheel, "I have to talk to Barry first. But, yeah, that's the plan." He gave me a boyish grin, "Why? You want me that bad?"

I smacked his leg. People in our line of work communicate with semi-violent gestures. Truthfully though, part of me did want him to come up to my room. He was right, I wanted him bad.

"Ow. Careful, you don't want your boss to catch you abusing the Legion ambassador."

"He just asked me to ask you to come. It was a request not an order," I shrugged, "I did my job. I think."

"So you had the option not to see me?"

"I guess so. Barry was asking nicely."

He leaned over and kissed me, "That's the sweetest thing you ever said to me."

I took off my seat belt. "Really? Cause here I thought I was more sweet than that," I murmured into his ear.

    "Darling, there are security cameras."

I sat back and put my hands back on my lap, "Okay."

    "Jeez, don't do that."

    I pouted playfully, "Do what?"

    "Act innocent."

I widened my eyes, "Cathedrians never act innocent! That's blasphemy!"

His grin turned into a seductive smile, "Sammy could be here any second." He looked at me like he was checking me out, "How badly do you wanna be innocent?"

I pretended to think about it for a second.

"Not that badly," I replied and climbed into his lap to kiss him.

It was a tap at the window that finally broke us apart. Sammy was peering in, grinning from ear to ear. I grabbed my bag and opened Jeff's door to get out.

We walked back to the headquarters with Sammy teasing that next time he would just turn off the lamppost.
